Microscopically assisted discectomy or microdiscectomy is a minimally invasive surgery to treat symptomatic disk herniations and spinal stenosis (narrowing of the spinal canal) and take the pressure off the spinal cord and nerve.
The surgery is done through smaller incisions under a microscope that magnifies the nerves, the spinal cord and other structures as much as 10 folds or more allowing the surgeon to clearly see the anatomy during the surgery through a small incision. The recovery is quicker and the surgery is often performed on an outpatient basis.
